Sustainable Gift Giving Guide
by Sustainable Ballard
Looking for the perfect gift that keeps on giving while having a more meaningful impact on our community? Look no further, we have something for almost everyone on your nice list!
For your favorite gardener give the gift of our Annual Edible Garden Tour! This is great for gardeners just getting dirt under their nails as well as seasoned gardeners who delight in seeing what others are growing in our area. Each June our Edible Garden Tour showcases 20+ local gardens in a specific area of Ballard(2025 will feature gardens in the Northwest section of Ballard). Give the gift of experience and community with a Sustainable Ballard Membership!

Got a fixer, crafter, maker, or handy-person on your holiday list? Instead of buying another tool they will only use once or twice year give them a Ballard Tool Library Membership which gets them access to a whole collection of tools that they don’t even have to store! Besides pressure washers, saws, and the usual “tools” we’ve got sewing machines, juicers, bike stands, dremels, lawn aerators, and many other dealy-bobs and whatchamacallits! This is the perfect gift for anyone new to Ballard or living in small spaces without garage/storage. Not to mention shared resources are a much better option for increased sustainability!

Is there someone on your list who already has everything? How about giving them the gift of not giving them more stuff! Instead give a donation in their name to purchase postage for our Free Letters Home project or a general Donation/Membership which helps support all of our projects and community events.

For spices, bath & beauty plus more earth friendly household items shop at Mimi’s Zero Waste Market located just a block and 1/2 North of our Tool Library on 15th Ave NW. Electric Folding Bikes on Leary has all sorts of bikes, accessories and parts to keep your commute greener. They also have bike rentals so you can give an adventure. Hildegard Ferments & Botanicals on NW 46th (just 1 block East of Ballard PCC) offers brewery and apothecary gift sets.

Remember to shop local and small when you can! Independently owned shops keep money in our community while providing jobs and making our neighborhood wonderfully unique. We wish you all very joyful, bright, and Earth friendly holidays!
