Ravishing Radishes

The Farmer’s Market Gleaners collected almost 1000lbs of produce this month! We saw lots of radishes, squash, carrots, and leafy greens. Tulips are making their appearance at the market which tells us that Spring is around the corner and with it- a greater variety of produce to collect! I’m also excited to report that the market gleaning team has had steady interest from new volunteers. If you’d like to join us as well, feel free to email Lesya.

The gleaning program, part of Sustainable Ballard, is an opportunity for volunteers to donate their time to the community by collecting donated food from vendors at the Ballard Farmers Market and bringing it to the Ballard Food Bank. Last year, we collected over 26,000 pounds of food for the Food Bank! Gleaning is a great way to connect with other volunteers, vendors, and the farmers market staff, all while helping to ensure that our neighbors have access to fresh, local produce.
