Knitters Continue to Warm Heads and Hearts

Impressively, (drum roll here) in 2024 Sustainable Ballard Knitters donated a total of 238 hats, 48 scarves and 3 pairs of gloves which represents a conservative estimate of 2,148,480 stitches.  That’s a lot of talent, commitment and caring made manifest. There is beauty and warmth on the streets of Seattle because of you.

As some of you know we had to find a new place to knit as our regular spot Pour Decisions on 80th & 15th (conveniently just a block and half away from our Ballard Tool Library!) closed this year. Our friends at Old Stove Gardens Brewery on NW 49th & 17th graciously offered their space. Since the Knitting Night falls on a Tuesday we have gotten to witness Old Stove’s “Giving in the Garden” where various other non-profits host fundraiser/information sessions. So it’s been quite lively and lots of people have interacted with our Knitters. In fact, one woman came to a game event and then signed up for our email newsletter since she didn’t really enjoy games and LOVES knitting/crocheting!

Another fun fact about the Knitters group is we have one volunteer who joined SBK in January of 2020. By March, SBK stopped meeting as a group due to Covid concerns. Jody, thank her Norwegian blood, sat on her porch and shared tips for this new knitter at six feet apart. In January of 2024, said knitter just finished her 60th SBK scarf. Thank you teacher Jody and to all teachers everywhere. You make the world go round.

Our next Sustainable Ballard Knitters Meet-up is Tuesday March 11th at Old Stove Gardens in Ballard from 7-9pm. Can’t make it this month, no worries! We’ll meet again Tuesday April 8th same time same place. This is a wonderful opportunity for new Knitters and experts alike. Gather with others, craft, and share warmth with our community!
