Techniques from Sociocracy are used by families, businesses, non-profits and government agencies. This Spring we hosting and helping to teach a full weekend workshop on Feb 27 & 28. Has the economy got you down? Fear not! The cooperative model provides a real alternative to the shenanigans that have brought us the current global recession. At this month's Sustainable Ballard gathering, on Monday, February 22nd, cooperatives will take center stage, and you are invited! Come and meet the owners of Equal Exchange and other local cooperatives. You will learn about the cooperative ownership and governance model, and perhaps be inspired to take matters into your own hands and together with your trusted associates start your own cooperative business. Co-ops are not a romantic, pie-in-the-sky dream for idealists, but actual, viable organizational structures that provide valuable services and feed a lot of people, while at the same time embodying all the values a sustainable economy must be built on.
Special Guests:
- Alison Booth, Equal Exchange
- Helen Bennett,
- Program Coordinator - SLICE (Supporting Local Independent Coops Everywhere)
- Member - Sherwood Cooperative
- Derek Hoshiko, Tatiana Cattand, Scott Behmer, Noelani Alexander, Rachel Petric- Harvest Collective
- Alex Tokar, Derek Hoshiko, Fulvio Casali - Web Collective
- Rick Riehle, Wendy Britton - Pangaea Organica Cooperative
