CURRENT PROJECTS
- Undriving and Undriver Licensing - The Undriving program creatively engages people to counteract global climate change, peak oil, and the prevailing car culture in their daily lives. With Undriver Licensing, we tap into people’s innate curiosity, creativity, and resourcefulness to make more conscious, active transportation choices, and to discover and share the joys inherent in car-free travel. After its debut at the 2007 Sustainable Ballard Festival, the Undriver Licensing Station hit the road to festivals, events, and schools all over the region, issuing over 3,500 Undriver Licenses to people of all ages. For the full scoop visit the Undriving website. Special thanks to King County METRO for support of the program, and Urban Sparks for fiscal sponsorship. -Julia Field
- Ballard Bike Rack Design Contest - A Ballard-wide bike rack design contest, funded through a City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund small and simple grant, in which members of the Ballard community entered bike rack designs, a slection committee from Ballard picked the winners, Ballard metal fabricators volunteered to build the winning designs, and our friends in the City of Seattle Dept. of Tranportation will install them. For full details visit the BiRDIE website
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Ballard Bike Rack Design Contest. We are currently working to get the winning designs built and installed and will have more information about when this will all occur soon.
How to get a free bike rack on City property:
Are you a Ballard business looking for a free bike rack in front of your establishment? All you have to do is contact our friend Dave Janis of the Bicycle Alliance at 206.224.9252 Ext. 302 or Davej@bicyclealliance.org and he'll take care of the rest, it's that easy! More information can also be found at [1], but make sure to contact Dave because he runs the show.
The Transportation Guild - Why? Our transportation choice is the biggest energy decision we make each day! Transportation impacts our health: nearly 70% of our region's air pollution comes from motor vehicle emissions. Transportation impacts our planet: transportation generates 60% of our state's CO2 emissions.
The T Guild works to promote alternatives to personal petroleum transportation: from walking, bicycling, electric bicycling, busing, and skateboarding to biodiesel cars and electric transport fueled by renewable energy (hydroelectric, wind, biodiesel ...).
