NEW DATE!

THE JANUARY MONTHLY GATHERING WILL BE DELAYED ONE WEEK TO MONDAY FEB.1. THIS IS OUR ANNUAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING AND A CHANCE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SUSTAINABLE BALLARD.

By-Laws Revisions

As Sustainable Ballard grows and adapts to the needs of the community and our leadership explores the best ways to work together, our by-laws change and grow with us. Here are the latest proposed revisions: Proposed By-Laws Revision - 12/26/09. These will be presented for vote at our Annual Meeting.

Climate Action

As thousands strolled the 33rd Annual Pathway of Lights at Seattle's Green Lake last Saturday, December 12th, a group of Climate Change Carolers (including Sustainable Ballard members) entertained with songs of "Jingle Trains" and "Oh Composting." The group then lit candles in support of a Real Deal in Copenhagen. Enjoy lyrics at http://tinyurl.com/ybo9fg6.

Our action was one of over 3000 international actions coordinated by 350.org, tcktcktck.org and others. According to the latest scientific studies, 350 or below is the number of parts per million of carbon in the atmosphere that will make our planet continue to be habitable for human life. To see more photos, like the one here, of the thousands of actions from around the globe, visit 350.org.

If you would like to continue following the climate action in Congress, we recommend signing on with the Climate Lobby citizensclimatelobby.org, with OneSky 1sky.org or with Climate Solutions climatesolutions.org.

Please let your voice be heard by demanding a science-based treaty in Copenhagen. Click here for more information.

For Sustainable Ballard, the first Monthly Gathering of each year is our Annual Gathering - when we celebrate last year's green accomplishments and look ahead to the coming year. This is also the time when our guild leaders and officers make or renew their commitment for the coming year. If you’ve been thinking that you want to get to know us better (maybe even made a resolution to do it this year), this is a great opportunity. We hope you will come be a part of this growing circle of somebodys doing something sustainable together!

In the first half of the evening, we'll look at 2009 and celebrate our sustainable success stories. Did you install a low-flush toilet? Yay!! Did you dig out a patch of grass and plant some vegetables? Double yay!! Did you finally map out a bike route to work and dust off the old 10 speed? Triple yay!! Also - what stands out for you from Sustainable Ballard's work in the past year?

In the second half we'll be looking ahead, meeting in guilds focused around different themes - home energy, food, transportation, and community. How can Sustainable Ballard make our neighborhood a better place this year? What would we like to accomplish in 2010? And what would you like to learn or share or contribute? Please join us!
