Ballard In Motion
From Sustainable Ballard
You can stay In Motion and find ways to drive less any time! Leaving your car behind is the healthy choice for you and the planet!
A Little Background. In summer 2006 many Ballard residents and employees participated in Ballard In Motion, a program helping people reduce their driving and bus, bike, walk and share rides more often. Sponsored by King County Metro, in partnership with the Ballard Chamber of Commerce, Sustainable Ballard and Groundswell Northwest, In Motion had great results in just 12 weeks:
- 889 people participated
- More than 30% reduced more than five car trips each week
- 12,218 car trips were taken off the road
- 189,461 miles of driving were saved
- 9,473 gallons of gas were saved
- 91.9 tons of CO2 emissions never went into the air
- More than 81% said they were like to continue their healthy new travel behavior
As you can see, Ballardites care about their community and the planet, and recognize that travel choice matters. So Why Stop Now? You can keep Ballard In Motion by doing all or some of the following:
- Download a handy trip log and track how you are continuing to drive less
- Log in and click discussion at the top of this page and meet up with others to share ideas on ways to drive less, form walking or biking groups - or discover other creative ways to make it easier to travel healthy. Why not let others know how many trips you’re continuing to save (recorded in your trip log).
- Look at the In Motion home page for Local Motion Links - resources to help you get around without your car - including a printable Ballard Bus, Bike and Walk Map. Put our In Motion Screensaver on your computer as a constant reminder for you and others to drive less.
Remember, every trip counts!!! Good luck and have fun staying In Motion!
