Monthly Gathering Helpers
SB hosts a community Monthly Gathering on the fourth Monday of every month, at Sunset Hill Community Club. Be part of making our Monthly Gatherings run smoothly by pitching in with one of the following: (you can volunteer for one-time only or more)
- Greeter - Welcome people and provide general information
- Set-up - Help set up tables, chairs, info table and potluck tables before the gathering
- Bring a wholesome main dish for 10 or more. Since bringing a dish is not possible for everyone, having a few volunteers bring a larger main dish each month ensures that we have enough food for everyone, and that our potluck is a success!
Community Kitchens Lead
Coordinate, plan and teach monthly Community Kitchens at the Ballard Community Center's kitchen. Work with Community Center staff and SB volunteers, come up with themes and menu ideas, cook and teach small groups how to cook healthy meals using local ingredients.
Start the Ballard Tool Library!
Ballard can use it's own Tool Library! Sustainable West Seattle, who has created and been operating a successful tool library for a while, has offered to share all of their how-to knowledge, experience and best practices! You won't need to reinvent this wheel! If you've got some time and energy to get this project started (you won't do it all alone!), let us know!
Help Ballard Restore Puget Sound
Sustainable West Seattle has created a replicable community education program called Don't Feed the Tox-Ick Monster - a 45-minute PowerPoint presentation about the solutions to the #1 threat to Puget Sound: polluted runoff. They are looking for motivated people to bring this campaign into their communities. They will give you a scripted presentation and supporting materials as well as advice on strategies that have and have not worked in our community. A great community education opportunity!
Publicity Help
Help publicize our events and activities by sending information to other organizations, posting in online community calendars, and/or by creating and hanging flyers on bulletin boards around Ballard. We've got a list of online locations to get you started and will supply the flyers and even a list of places to go. We are also looking for a Communications and Publicity Coordinator to design a publicity strategy, and coordinate and oversee our publicity efforts.
Adapt this Flyer to help Ballard Be Prepared In Case of Zombie Attack
Can you help adapt and produce this great emergency preparedness flyer generously shared with us by Sustainable Wallingford?
Add Up Ballard Market Receipts Monthly
Help out by collecting and adding up the Ballard Market receipts members send our way each month, to be sent to Ballard Market. Sustainable Ballard receives 1% of that total in donation from Ballard Market each month. Andrea, who has been doing this for a long time, is ready to pass on the torch. If interested, please contact Andrea.
At-large Board Member - Admin Team
Join the team that keeps things going behind the scenes! As part of the Admin Team you'll learn about the many things required for running a non-profit, make a big difference helping out with some of them, participate in discussions, planning and decision making, and learn about the Dynamic Governance way of running meetings and making decisions. The Admin Team meets once a month (2nd Monday) for about two hours. No life long commitment here... If this sounds interesting, come in and try it and see what you think! Your input, energy and organizational skills are valued and needed!
Wiki Help
We are looking for a wiki-savvy volunteer (or otherwise tech inclined) to help spiff-up and update our wiki pages. Work from home at your own flexible schedule.
Movie Night
Join a team of volunteers who organize a monthly "meaningful movie" night for the community. Think thought-provoking movie, snacks, and good discussion. Help with choosing the movie, taking care of logistics for the event, setting up, getting and selling snacks, welcoming people, leading discussion, and/or cleaning up at the end. Fun and easy!
Assistant Coordinator for SB Knitters For the Homeless
Jody is looking for someone to help her coordinate and occasionally run a monthly meeting for beginner knitters who will get together at a coffee shop to learn patterns and knit for the unhoused members of our community.
Secretary of the Board
Neat and organized? As Secretary of the SB Board, you'll be part of the Admin Team, help with logistics for quarterly Board meetings, take and edit meeting notes (about 1/month), send out reminders for newsletter content, and take on occasional other tasks as needed.
Volunteer Coordinator
If you enjoy working with volunteers and have organization and coordination skills, SB can use your help as a Volunteer Coordinator. Please see our description of role responsibilities for more details.
Bi-Monthly Newsletter Minder
We would love for you to help us get our bi-monthly newsletter out to our nearly 1300 members twice per month. Send reminders for content, keep track of writers for the intro, prepare the newsletter to be sent. Some experience with html and wiki formatting would be helpful, but we can train.
Information Technology
If you can help with programming, design or just data transfer, please contact Fulvio Casali
Research on Sustainable, Local Food
The Food and Health Guild seeks volunteer/s excited about sustainable, local food to research and update the guild's wiki page with links to recent books, articles, postings, websites, films, book and film reviews, etc. For more information, please contact Jennifer
