Please join YES! Magazine for a series of Puget Sound author and community discussion events featuring YES! co-founder and executive editor Sarah van Gelder.
Sarah will be speaking at several area independent bookstores January 9th-15th about the Occupy movement, and the new Occupy book from YES! Magazine and Berrett-Koehler Publishers:
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING: OCCUPY WALL STREET AND THE 99% MOVEMENT
This newly-published anthology, edited by Sarah Van Gelder, is the first substantive book on the Occupy movement and brings together voices from inside and outside the protests to convey the issues, possibilities, and personalities associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
Contributors to the book include Naomi Klein, Rebecca Solnit, Ralph Nader, David Korten, and others, along with early Occupy activists such as David Graeber, Marina Stern, and Hena Ashraf. It offers insights for those actively protesting or expressing support for the movement—and for the millions more who sympathize with the goal of a more equitable and democratic future.
The Occupy Wall Street movement named the core issue of our time: the overwhelming power of Wall Street and large corporations —something the political establishment and most media have long ignored. But the movement goes far beyond this critique. This Changes Everything shows how the movement is shifting the way people view themselves and the world, the kind of society they believe is possible, and their own involvement in creating a society that works for the 99% rather than just the 1%.
These author events with Sarah offer a great way to look at what has happened to date with the Occupy movement, and how things might develop in the year ahead. Hope you can join us!
See Sarah's end-of-year column, with special emphasis on hopeful trends that the Occupy movement has generated and influenced, "The 12 Most Hopeful Trends to Build on in 2012"
