Our world is moving into increasingly challenging times, but also times of great opportunity to adapt and be nimble. How do we meet the growing critical needs of individuals, families, and communities? And through these challenges, how do we nurture a sense of community, our capacity for resilience and the ability to thrive with one another?
Join us on South Whidbey Island for the inaugural Thriving Communities Conference, the first in a series of annual conferences which bring together communities who are discovering answers to these questions so that they can move forward together more effectively, more efficiently and more powerfully into the common future.
Our focus this first year is food and how we nourish ourselves as communities. Through the stories and experiences of some exemplary local organizations working on food access and farm-to-market initiatives, we will use South Whidbey Island as a living laboratory to evoke and examine ways to thrive while building resiliency. We invite you to join us, tell us your story and share what’s working in your own community.
Participate in an inaugural gathering of innovators, advocates, leaders, service providers and enthusiasts from communities throughout the Cascadia bioregion. We’ll examine critical issues, ask questions that matter, engage in dialogue, share ideas and practices which work, and strengthen a network of communities working toward a thriving and sustainable future.
Together we’ll explore how as members of rural and urban communities we can work together to feed ourselves while at the same time cultivating a vital sense of community.

Please join us for a transformative weekend in February, one which promises to be the beginning of a tremendous shift in the way we live in community with one another and with our planet.
We hope to see you at the Whidbey Institute February 2-4, 2012!
