BHFAC News

From Sustainable Ballard

September 2011 - BHFAC is greatly encouraged by the increased focus on a total community effort to address homelessness, as depicted by the new multi-neighborhood task force convened by Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson and Seattle City Council Member Mike O'Brien, and will actively participate in the new task force. The first meeting is scheduled for September 22, 2011.

Friday, February 5, 2010 - Jean Darsie, BHFAC Coordinator, gave a presentation today on the Residential Safe Parking Program to members of the Seattle City Council's Committee on Housing and Human Services, at the request of committee Chair, Nick Licata. Jean was accompanied by representatives from the Interfaith Taskforce on Homelessness, Sustainable Ballard, and the architects who designed and built the mobile shower unit known as "Rover 1".

This was also the first public comment period of the year, and we were pleased and encouraged at the number of citizens and groups present, who are actively involved in various ways in addressing homelessness related issues in the city, symbolizing the air of hopefulness about a more favorable environment by the new city administration.

January 2010 - Good news! The Interfaith Task Force on Homelessness has agreed to serve as the fiscal agent for the State grant funding for the Residential Safe Parking pilot project. The ITFH has requested that the legislation be amended to reflect this fact. Once the State budget is passed in March, they will be able to receive and administer the funds from the State grant and the project can move forward.
